Male friend stealing female underwear?

I have just found out that a male friend that I have known for 7 years has been stealing my underwear and clothes, and underwear from my friends. I found a diary he was keeping on his PC about his thefts. He has taken mine from my home, and off my friends clothesline. What should I do, why would he be doing this?
